Something You Didn't Know You Needed

"You Look Like a Discreet Assassin for a High Level Fashion House"

How does he come up with this stuff?
There's a man, Troy Hawke, a character created by Milo McCabe (“If I've got the smoking jacket on, I'm Troy."), that walks around in the city on behalf of the Greeter's Guild (fictitious organization) and gives random, elaborate compliments to people walking by.  I don't know why I find this so entertaining.  Maybe it's his English delivery.  Maybe it's the smoking jacket. Most likely it's because I never know what he's going to say next.

Headline:  NEW North Carolina LAW ABOUT GUNS IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS

"Effective immediately is a new law that will expand gun access to private school faculty and staff while on the job."
Does anyone want to tell them that it's typically NOT the private schools that have gun violence?  Speaking of violence, when I was in the 5th grade a Baptist principal hit me with her paddle (don't ask).  Fast forward to 2025 and she might have a gun?  Which has me wondering what would a student need to do in the 21st century to get pistol-whipped?

Something We Need On The OBX

Wave-riding canines compete in the World Dog Surfing Championships
If this were held on the Outer Banks I think I could watch it all day.

Things To Do

Songs of the Outer Banks, Julianne Laird and R.J. Nestor, 8/22/25, 6pm, Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, free.

My friend, Julianne Laird, has an amazing soprano voice and is sure to impress.  Listing below.

Restaurant of the Week

NC Coast

Last week I had the pleasure of taking our boat to Duck for an early dinner.  Forgive me for being a little slow, but I just found out the Town has public slips on the south end between Aqua S and Bob's Bait and Tackle.  This makes for a very short walk to NC Coast and if you get there early enough you can walk right in and have a seat.  NC Coast has an open layout with the kitchen on one side and a bar on the other.  They've done a great job of keeping the water-facing view available for the entire restaurant.  They also have a nice variety of outdoor seating which wasn't an option last week due to the oppressive heat, but definitely on my To-Do list for the fall.

I had the MEXICAN POUTINE and it was incredible. It's listed on the dinner menu under "To Share", but to hell with that. Layered sweet potato fries, chili infused queso, mojo pork, fresh cilantro, house pickled jalapeños, pico de gallo, and queso fresca.  Good luck getting in to your Speedo the day after. https://www.nccoastobx.com
